7 recommended cafes in Hawaii that are a bike ride away from Waikiki

Hawaii has just the right balance between city life and nature, so why not take a bike ride and enjoy a little outdoor cafe trip? Rather than moving efficiently, it's best to take a detour and feel the trade winds gently caressing your cheeks and the breathing of the locals. We'll introduce you to some of the newest cafes that will leave you completely satisfied.
1Plantoem
A relaxing garden cafe where you will be greeted by lots of greenery

Kaimuki Town is close to Waikiki, but has a local atmosphere. When you go up to the second floor of a building along Waialae Avenue, which runs through the center of town, you will find vibrant plants overflowing inside and outside the store, making you want to take a deep breath. The female owner, who runs the store that just opened in August 2021, sells indoor plants that she grows herself and colorful plants that she orders from local farms, and has also set up a cafe at the back of the store so that customers can enjoy the space even if they don't buy plants.
The name of the restaurant comes from plants and poetry, and the beautiful scenery adds to the blissful atmosphere.

Plant M is a combination of two words the owner loves: plant and poem. As the name suggests, the spacious cafe has poetry books and plants on the tables, and art by local artists that changes monthly is displayed on the walls. Yoga, Pilates and other events are sometimes held. If you sit by the window, you'll see a small window that makes you feel like you're in an attic.
From there you can see the old town of Kaimuki and Palolo Valley in the distance. The pleasant feeling of spending time surrounded by the greenery of small plants and the magnificent greenery of the mountains and valleys will slowly release your mind and body.

Popular fine dining restaurant newly opens with cafe

MW, a famous restaurant run by one of Hawaii's top star chefs and his wife, has relocated and opened a cafe on the first floor. MW's signature menu has been casually recreated and is being served alongside the new cafe menu. The restaurant serves regional cuisine using locally produced ingredients and incorporating cooking methods from the Pacific countries surrounding Hawaii, so everything you eat is fresh and simple, yet luxurious. It's a great place for lunch, meetings, or just spending time alone, with a mix of locals and tourists that makes it a very Hawaiian-like, comfortable place.
The best location to experience "Kakaako"

Located at the entrance to Kakaako, which has been developing into a modern town for several years, this is also a part of a new condominium. It's a perfect place to stop by on your way to see the famous wall art, and it's also close to the "Whole Foods Queen" store that everyone wants to go to, so you can do some souvenir shopping there too.
There are tables available inside the restaurant, but we recommend sitting on the open terrace and watching the ever-changing cityscape.

3Guava Smoked
A new staple in mixed plates, the savory brown rice will knock you out

The first store in the Kalihi district, where cheap and delicious food is plentiful, became so popular that they opened a second store on Kapahulu Avenue. This plate lunch store specializes in smoked foods, where meat and fish are cold-smoked for 4-5 hours using recycled guava wood, then grilled to order. Compared to kiawe wood, also known as Hawaiian binchotan charcoal, guava wood smokes more mellowly, tenderizing the meat and giving it a subtle sweetness.
The mixed plate, which allows you to choose two types of smoked food, is the highlight, and is so delicious you won't be able to stop eating.
There is a mecca for mixed plates in my neighborhood, but here are some places to try them now

The restaurant is spacious, and you can order at the counter in front of the open kitchen and then take a seat wherever you like. There is also outdoor seating with a spectacular view of the Ala Wai Golf Course in front, the Waikiki buildings in the distance, and the sunset.
Even food-conscious travelers who tend to get frustrated with cafe food will be very satisfied, with the accompanying vegetables being freshly produced in Hawaii and the dressing being made in Hawaii, "Swiss Indian dressing," and attention to detail.
There are many other dishes you'll want to try, such as loco moco with smoked hamburger and smoked meat omelette.

4Po'ai By Pono Potions
A chic coffee boutique found downtown

This stylish cafe seems to blend in with Chinatown, but immediately catches your eye. The brick walls from the time of the port town are left untouched, and the owner's taste is reflected in the display of Hawaiian antiques and local designer products. The coffee counter is decorated with handwritten menus on craft paper, and the interior is lovely and relaxing. This is a cafe-style boutique where you can drink drinks made with the essence of the owner's handmade syrup, which he developed himself.
What are the delicious craft drinks made with Hawaiian syrups?

Pono Potions' Hawaiian syrups are made with natural Hawaiian ingredients without any additives. They will make your coffee time more elegant as you are enveloped in the fragrant aromas of North Shore vanilla, Maui Kula lavender, and Oahu ginger.
The signature matcha latte with lavender syrup is an unexpected combination that will surprise you with its deliciousness, and the lemonade that lets you enjoy the syrup of the day has a refreshing taste. We recommend trying the drinks to find your favorite flavor and take it home with you.

5Alo Cafe Hawaii
Healthy Fruit Oasis Coming to Waikiki

A Japanese couple has chosen a life in Hawaii that enriches both body and mind after many journeys in life. They opened this restaurant in July 2021 with the hope of sharing the knowledge and experience they gained by basing their lives on yoga and surfing and eating healthy meals with people traveling to Hawaii.
There are surprisingly few healthy cafes in Waikiki. They are a go-to spot for vegans and vegetarians, and a welcome addition for those who want to have a place like this on hand to reset their tired stomachs during their trip.
Popular items are the beautiful acai bowls and colorful smoothies

The most popular menu item at this store is the acai bowl, made with plenty of Hawaiian fruits such as bananas and pineapples. If you come to Hawaii, you'll want to eat an acai bowl, and this doesn't disappoint; the natural sweetness is gentle on the stomach.
The avocado toast and baked goods are made from plant-based organic ingredients, and this commitment is also reflected in the dried fruits, honey, coffee, and fruit butter sold in the store. You can also find natural souvenirs that convey the love of the makers.

Local foodies are crazy about this natural supermarket's gourmet cafe

Restaurant opened in November 2020 inside Kahala Market, a supermarket that sells carefully selected locally produced and natural gourmet foods. Soon after it opened, foodies who popped in to try it out while shopping spread the word by word of mouth that the food and service were excellent, making it a hot topic. The store has an atmosphere that makes it seem like a nice place to go out in style, but it also seems to be a very casual place for Kahala locals to drop in to buy a cup of coffee or drop in for a smoothie after a workout. That's surely because it's so beloved, it's a place they use on a daily basis.
Modern American cuisine incorporating local ingredients and trends

As much as possible, they use ingredients from Hawaii, such as beef from the Big Island, fish from nearby waters, and cheese and other deli items from a ranch in Waianae, Oahu. They pursue fine cuisine through a powerful collaboration between the purchasing power of a local supermarket and a talented chef who honed his skills at Restaurant Alan Wong, known for hosting White House dinners during the Obama administration.
Lobster rolls, which are a big hit across the US, are changed to crab depending on the season, and seasonal fruits and vegetables are added to the menu, so you can always enjoy a fresh meal.
